About this Course

The Rigger and Signalman Course is aimed at providing individuals with the knowledge and skills to prepare and to secure the load for safe lifting, lifting equipment and use of correct and clear signals to guide the crane operator in the manoeuvering of a load safely. This is a mandatory course in line with Workplace Safety and Health (Operation of Cranes) Regulations. The training will be held at our purpose built indoor training facility.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, course participants will be able to:

• Describe the legislative requirements for safe lifting operation
  
• List the duties of the Rigger and Signalman in lifting operation
  
• Participate in toolbox meeting (Rigger only)
  
• Ascertain weight of load and determine centre of gravity (Signalman only)
  
• Conduct pre-lift inspection of crane, lifting gears and accessories and serviceability check on communication equipment
  
• Practise good housekeeping of communication equipment, crane, lifting gear and accessories
  
• Select and use the appropriate rigging equipment, lifting gears and accessories (Rigger only)
  
• Rig and direct load to destination with safe lifting (Rigger only)
  
• Check and verify load is properly rigged (Signalman only)
  
• Apply 3-step lifting and lowering method to comply with safe work procedures for lifting operation
  
• Identify hazards related to lifting operation
  
• Respond to lifting accident and emergencies
  
• Set up communications for safe lifting operation (Signalman only)
  
• Communicate lifting instructions using standard hand & voice signals (Signalman only)
  

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The course would be appropriate for individuals assigned as Rigger and/or Signalman in the workplace.

DURATION

21 hours including 5.5 hours of assessment comprising Written Test (1hr) and Practical Performance (4.5 hrs).

PRE-REQUISITE

Workplace literacy and numeracy Level 2 or equivalent. At least six months of relevant industrial experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Must be over 18 years of age.

HOW IS IT ASSESSED

The course is assessed by a 1-hour written test (40 multiple choice questions) and a 4.5-hours practical assessment.

Course participants with 100% attendance and successfully completed / passed both the practical and written assessments, will be awarded the Rigger and Signalman certificate issued by KBA Training Centre Pte Ltd ~ Accredited from Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Singapore.
