About this Course

This is a 4 months programme of which each level consists of Preliminary, Access, Achiever, Communicator, Expert & Mastery, which unique qualifications have been specially developed by City & Guilds UK. The wide range of English Language qualifications are suitable for diverse audiences from students and young learners to people in work requiring different levels of English proficiency. These qualifications develop speaking, writing, reading and listening skills using real examples and tasks from entry to advanced level.

Aims & Objectives/Expected Outcomes

This course is designed to improve the key skills areas of English Language proficiency. It helps to prepare students to sit for especially the IELTS examinations.  Emphasis is placed on a thorough knowledge of grammar and vocabulary-building. Although the course content at each level is demanding, our teachers conduct the classes in a friendly and relaxed style. Learning becomes a more pleasurable experience without the pressure of formal examinations. 

Course Syllabus/Content: 

For each level, Preliminary to Mastery, the standard syllabus content are:

1.    Listening 

2.    Reading

3.    Writing 

4.    Grammar

5.    Verb Form

6.    Modals, Nouns, Pro-Nouns, Possessives and Preposition

7.    Articles, determiners, adjectives, adverbs, intensifiers

8.    Punctuation and spelling

9.    Discourse

10.  Special Topics of Interest

11.  Functions

Special focus is placed on local culture in order to develop an appreciation of the Singapore way of life.

City & Guilds (UK) IESOL Certificate 

Total Course Duration/Weekly Instruction Hours 

Duration:  4 months per level (classroom)

Days:  Mondays to Fridays

Time:  9.00am to 12.00pm / 2.00pm to 5.00pm / 6.00pm to 9.00pm

Weekly Instruction Hours: minimum of 15 contact hours per week

Entry Requirements

No minimum qualifications as students need to take the IESOL Placement Test
