About this Course

Programme Overview

The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years (ACEY) is a required professional qualification for an educarer working with children aged 2 months to 3 years.

Course Learning Outcomes

Provide educarers with an overview of the history and theories behind early childhood care and education, as well as an understanding of the various domains and stages of development for children from birth to 3 years. These must be portrayed in the context of the work experience of local educarers to help them reflect, assess and improve their current practices.

Enable educarers to have a more in-depth understanding of the guiding principles, outcomes and sub-outcomes of the Early Years Development Framework (EYDF).

Enable educarers to apply and implement the suggested practices stated in the EYDF in their work with young children and families.

Equip educarers with necessary skills and practical knowledge to plan and implement programmes, curriculum and environments for the following age groups:

  • Infants (2 to 18 months)
  • Toddlers (Above 18 to 30 months)
  • Nursery children (Above 30 to 36 months)

Equip educarers with the skills to engage in reflective practice

Equip educarers with relevant skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and families, as well as key stakeholders in the community to support children’s care, learning and development

Entry Requirements

Existing Teachers (those who have been employed in a childcare centre before 1 Oct 2011):

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Completed Certificate in Infant and Toddler Care or WSQ Higher Certificate in Infant Care and
  • Attained an average SOA 5 in the WPL Series and any one of the following:
  • A credit in GCE ‘O’ Level English as a 1st Language (EL1) A minimum of Band 5.5 in the International English  Language Testing System (IELTS – General Training) An average SOA of 5 for WPL (written)

New Teachers (those who have been employed in a childcare centre on or after 1 Oct 2011):

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Must have at least Sec 4 qualifications completed 10 years of formal education* and
  • Attained an average SOA 5 in the WPL Series and any one of the following:
  • A credit in GCE ‘O’ Level English as a 1st Language (EL1) A minimum of Band 5.5 in the International English  Language Testing System (IELTS – General Training) An average SOA of 5 for WPL (written)

Assessment

Students will be assessed based on individual or group work for every module in the programme. The weightage for assignment will range from 30% to 70%.

Duration

The course is conducted over 16 months (part-time) or 8 months (full-time). Students are required to complete 400 classroom hours and 200 practicum hours.

Award

Students who successfully complete all modules will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years by Asian International College.
