About this Course

Aims:

1. To explore the elements of acting

2. To provide an opportunity for the participants to create and perform in a skit

3. To explore character creation in a performance

4. To provide an opportunity for drama improvisation

5. To provide teachers some basic acting / improvisational skills they can use in the classroom

Objectives:

At the end of the workshop, participants

1. will be able to create a scene through improvisation

2. will put up a skit as part of the works-in-progress presentation

3. would have acquired some acting / improvisational skills

Session 1

1. Introduction & Ice Breakers

2. Theatre Games

3. SPACE I – develop spatial and sensory awareness

4. BODY WORK I – develop the Actor’s physical expression

5. VOICE WORK – develop the Actor’s vocal expression

Session 2

1. Warm Up

2. SPACE II – build on session one’s work

3. BODY WORK II – build on session one’s work

4. Playing CHARACTERS I  Introduction to Characterization work

Session 3

1. Warm Up

2. Playing CHARACTERS II  Character Parade  Develop colourful, believable and lively characters

3. Conflict & Tensions

4. IMPROVISATION – develop improvisation skills and creation of short scenes

Session 4

1. Warm UP

2. IMPROVISATION II

3. Structuring the scenes 

Session 5

1. Rehearsals for Final Showing

2. Mini Showing of works in progress

3. Reflections

4. Closure
