About this Course

Introduction

This is an assignment-based course. To embark on it, you should be preferably TESOL trained or with some teaching/tutoring experience. If you have ‘GCE’ O-levels or equivalent qualification and a strong interest in teaching, you will also be considered. Most importantly, reasonable fluency in both oral and written English is required. This 10-unit course will provide insights into how children learn English – both as Mother Tongue and Second Language. You will discover new ideas for activities for both young learners (aged 4 to 11) and teenagers (aged 12+).

8 lessons, 3 hours each

Total of 24 hours*

Approximately 1.7 months

Objectives

• Understand the principles on which modern language teaching is based

• Equip individuals the right theories, method and strategies in teaching English as a second or foreign language

• Learn to design own lesson plans based on different learning styles, cultural background and needs of learners

Class (Face-To-Face)

Class size will be kept to size of 6 - 10 students to ensure holistic learning.

The Syllabus

During the course, students will build a strong fundamental in teaching english to young learners and teenagers. With the close interaction and guidance of our highly dedicated and qualified trainers, students will learn the following modules/subjects to prepare them for the LTTC examination:

Unit 1: Importance of teaching a second language?

Unit 2: Understanding Languages

Unit 3: How young learners learn languages

Unit 4: Stories and Speaking activities

Unit 5: Writing Activities

Unit 6: Songs, Rhymes and Chants

Unit 7: Discovery Activities

Unit 8: Vocabulary Building

Unit 9: Game, Puzzles and Quizzes

Unit 10: The Syllabus

Practicum

Students will be given the opportunity to apply what they would learn from the course. Our trainers will guide the students as to how classes should be conducted.
