About this Course

Overview

Auston’s in-house english program, APEC, has helped many students quickly move to a level of english required to enter into degree and academic programmes. The program is consist of 3-levels of study.

Students are engaged 5-hours a day; 3-hours in the morning for language fundamentals and 2-hours in the afternoon for supplementary skills such as learning, speaking and academic writing.

WHAT WILL I LEARN

Elementary Level

The Elementary levels aim to build a strong foundation in a student’s English language proficiency. By the end of Elementary levels, students should be able to:

  • understand the main ideas of a text, including discussions with some repetition and rewording
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes interaction possible without strain;produce and understand a clear detailed text on a wide range of language forms, vocabulary and structures
  • give clear explanations and descriptions by writing paragraphs composition and personal journal
  • avoid making errors which cause misunderstanding and able to correct some of their own errors;
  • speak reasonably fluently, with few noticeably long pauses;
  • help in extended discussion, confirming comprehension, inviting contributions, presentation etc

Intermediate Level

The Intermediate level prepares the students to write clear connected texts in wide topics, and perform report writing. The student has sufficient active vocabulary and structural understanding to:

  • understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning;
  • express themselves fluently and spontaneously for most day-to-day communication needs;
  • use language flexibly, for social, academic and professional purposes;
  • produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts;
  • has a good command of a broad range of language allowing themselves to express themselves clearly and appropriately by identifying the specific facts within the texts;
  • consistently maintain a high level of grammatical accuracy but may have occasional comprehension problems;

Advanced Level

The Advanced level is the minimum standard of English for entry into any of Auston academic programmes. This level aims to help students prepare for spontaneous interaction to achieve communication skills beyond simple conversation. The achievement included:

  • understand with ease everything heard or read;
  • summarize information from different spoken or written sources; reconstructing sentences and presentation;
  • express themselves spontaneously, fluently and precisely;
  • maintain constant grammatical control and interact with ease;
  • use a full variety of organizational patterns.

COURSE INFORMATION

Full-Day Course

A typical English class at Auston would have less than 15 students and made up of an equal proportion of Korean, Chinese, Burmese and Vietnamese students.
