KBA Training Center Pte Ltd is pleased to announce our new agreement with ITB (an approved OPITO training provider) to bring you OPITO Competence Assessor Training. This training is designed for organizations who require qualified assessors for implementing competence management system or for individuals who wish to gain recognized Assessor qualifications.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Carrying out the Assessment

            - Defining and agreeing to the assessment process

            - Evaluating evidence and making the assessment decision

  • Giving Feedback and Record Keeping

            - Giving Candidates feedback on performance

            - Recording assessment decisions

Delegates attending this competence assessor award programme will be given a series of explanations and demonstrations that will identify what they are expected to know and do.

This will be followed by practical exercises allowing delegates to rehearse their skills, knowledge and understanding of the competence assessor role. All practical exercises shall use, wherever possible, the actual paperwork that the delegates are expected to use in their workplace.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Delegates, following a series of explanations, demonstrations and opportunities to practice, will be assessed against the following training outcomes:

Delegates should be able to explain:

  • What competence assessors and internal verifiers do.
  • The reasons for having competence systems in the workplace.
  • Language and formats of competence standards.
  • The value of different evidence sources.
  • How to advise candidates during the planning meeting.
  • The methods of assessment and the preferred ones to use.
  • The importance of consistency in assessment decision.
  • Record keeping requirements.
  • How to maintain confidential information.
  • How to deal with difficulties, disputes or appeals.
  • Why the assessment plan should be updated to reflect progress.
  • Where and when to provide feedback that motivates the delegate.
  • How assessments are quality assured.
  • The role of OPITO and its requirements relative to ‘competence’ within the Oil & Gas Industry.

Delegates should be able to demonstrate:

  • How to involve candidates in the appropriate assessment planning process.
  • How to carry out effective assessment.
  • How to make an assessment decision based on a collection of evidence.
  • How to feedback the results in a way that continues to motivate the candidate.
  • How to keep pertinent records.

PRE-REQUISITE

  • Have access to 2 candidates with the same discipline.
  • Are considered technically competent in the area they are expected to assess.
  • Are willing to carry out assessments and make assessment decisions.
  • Are prepared to ask candidates questions as required to clarify an element of the standard(s) being assessed.
  • Have the ability to judge whether the candidate’s performance/responses are acceptable and satisfy the requirements of the standard(s) being assessed.
  • Have the ability to correctly complete the assessment paperwork/report.
  • Are able to give constructive feedback to the candidate on the results of the assessment.

HOW IS IT ASSESSED?

Part 1 – Written Knowledge Test

Part 2 – Practical Skills Test

Both parts to be completed in one hour at the end of the 2 Day training programme.

Workplace Evidence Requirements:

For two candidates (who will be the same throughout) and for one stand-alone competence unit the delegate must submit to the training provider:

  • Assessments plans for each candidate.
  • Records showing that the assessments were carried out using a variety of methods but with observation and questioning being the minimum and prime sources of evidence.
  • Records showing how the individual assessment decisions were reached.
  • Records of assessment feedback to each candidate.
  • Verification of both assessments by the employing organisation’s internal verifier or competence focal person (This is a requirement but will not form part of the assessment decision).

CERTIFICATION AND RECORDING?

An OPITO certificate will be issued to all delegates assessed as meeting the stated outcomes. The issue of a certificate indicates that the delegate has achieved the level of competence required to be recognised as an OPITO Certified Competence Assessor.

Certificates will contain the following information: Indicate the course is accredited by OPITO, Establishment Name, Full OPITO Course Title, Delegate’s Name, Course Dates, Venue, Certification Date, Unique Certificate Number, Establishment Signatory

Delegates successfully completing OPITO approved training and/or assessment events are registered by OPITO into the Vantage database. This database is Industry owned and is used by offshore employers to track and manage the movement and transportation of personnel to and from worksites. Employers and others can verify the training and competence records of personnel via the Vantage system which is Internet based and globally accessible.

Exclusion Notes:

Achievement of this certificate does not entitle the holder to award any OPITO certificate. OPITO approved certificates can only be granted by an OPITO approved provider.

Completing the OPITO Competence Assessor Award may not equip the holder to assess qualifications issued by other bodies, e.g. National or Scottish Vocational Qualifications in the UK. Delegates should clarify with the relevant organisation prior to embarking on this award.
