Post-Diploma Certificate in Preschool Management (Semester 2) Module Synopsis Managing an Early Childhood Centre This module introduces participants to management theories and practices which underpin the efficient day to day operations of an early childhood centre. The roles and responsibilities in the management process will be explored and include key management functions such as organisational and interpersonal communication, motivating staff and parents, team building, decision making and problem solving processes and managing and leading change. Key issues in the management of human resources will be examined and include staff selection, development, evaluation, job performance and satisfaction, staff relations, discipline and training. Administration in Early Childhood Settings The principles and practices related to the effective administration of physical, human, financial and other resources will be covered in this module. In the area of financial management, participants will learn about financing, funding and how to procure funds; record financial transactions and control income and expenditure, particularly those related to record keeping, budgeting procedures and staffing issues. The impact of current government policies and regulations on the provision and operation of quality early childhood services will be explored. Legal issues affecting child care will be examined. Supervision and Mentoring An effective early childhood programme requires leaders to be staff-centric as well as being well versed in the latest practices and trends in the field and meet organisational goals and goals for children. This module will bring participants through the knowledge and process of supervisory and mentoring roles of leaders.
