Certificate in Marine Production Management - Part of Diploma in Engineering (Marine)

About this Course

Certificate in Marine Production Management Module Synopsis Engineering Materials The module aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge of common engineering materials. The scope covers basic knowledge of metal structures and how they affect the properties and performances of engineering materials. Classroom knowledge is reinforced and enhanced by hands-on experiments in the laboratory on metallography and mechanical testing. Also included in this module are alloying, plain carbon steels, ceramics, non-ferrous materials and the methods to change their properties as well as polymers. Marine Production Technology The module aims to provide students with the knowledge on processes and operations found in shipbuilding, ship repair and conversion. It also covers principles in shipyard layout, docking facilities, design and process flow management in typical marine production yards. Processes that are included in this module are shipbuilding materials, cutting and forming, welding and weld quality control, pipe fabrication, surface preparation and coating systems, work accesses and platforms, classification and statutory surveys, commissioning and trials. Marine Project Management The module aims to provide students with the fundamental concepts of successful marine project management (PM). Students would pick up fundamental topics such as scheduling, resource planning; management and control e.g. work breakdown structure, graphic representation of work sequence, duration estimating, resource planning, earned value method and contracts. They would then learn the practical use of PM software to plan, organize and control typical marine projects.
