Post-Diploma Certificate in Offshore Technology (Semester 2) Module Synopsis Fundamentals of Marine Offshore Design This module provides the students with the basic knowledge and understanding of intact stability and trim of a ship. It includes calculations on stability of ships according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements. The module also provides students with the understanding of damaged stability, ship launching, tonnage, and load line assessment of ships. Longitudinal stretch and resistance of ships, and concepts of ship design, will be covered in the module. Fundamentals of Offshore Oil & Gas Technology The module aims to provide students with a broad overview of the offshore oil and gas industry in the ASEAN region and other parts of the world. This module covers fundamental understanding of the current concepts of upstream offshore drilling, production technology, working principles of marine offshore systems, topside production modules and subsea modules. Considerations for field layout and the entire lifecycle of oil and gas platforms from procurement, construction, commissioning, operations and decommissioning would be discussed. Basic chemistry and properties of natural gas and oil will also be discussed. Fundamentals of Offshore Engineering The module aims to help students understand the design considerations for offshore structures. In the analysis and design of offshore structures, students would be introduced to the API Recommended Practices and ISO 19900 standards for offshore platform design. Topics covered range from various wave theories, diffraction theory, Morison’s theory and spectral modelling approaches to offshore industries. The module also provides participants the opportunities to explore the capabilities of a software package for structural analysis of offshore platforms. Overall, students will be exposed to the latest engineering concepts and practices in offshore design, construction and installation.
