About this Course
Certificate in Early Years Learning Environments (Semester 3) Module Synopsis Learning Environment and Behaviour Management This module examines a range of factors in the learning environment and conditions that influence childrens behaviour in the early childhood settings. Participants will learn to observe behaviour of a child or groups of children, and reflect on the contributing factors and develop positive guidance strategies. Designing and evaluation of developmentally appropriate environments in early years settings will also be covered. Infant and Toddler Learning Environment The infancy and toddlerhood stages of development provide a significant foundation upon which the early childhood years are formed and nurtured. In this module, participants will actively engage in understanding what contributes to this vital stage of human development and how it has a long term influence on the life and experiences of the growing child. In particular, participants will examine the importance of prenatal development, attachment, identity formation, the definition and role of temperament and how each domain of development can thrive with appropriate practices and support for infancy and toddler development. Participants will examine and reflect on the principles of infant and toddler growth and development and how the human social environment in partnership with the physical environment can facilitate developmentally appropriate practices and experiences for infants and toddlers. Working with the Exceptional Child This module is designed to provide participants with an overview of the field of special education, and its place in our current educational system. It equips the participant with knowledge of more common disabilities seen in Singapore. The module will also discuss individual categories of disabilities along with general instructional considerations that may be used in the classroom environment so that children with special educational needs may be included. Practicum (II) This module extends participants competence in relation to practical aspects of working with young children in early childhood settings. The teaching practice attachment will give opportunities for participants to plan and implement learning experiences for a child and also a small group of children based on the understanding of childrens abilities, interest and needs. Both structured and unstructured learning experiences will be designed with the aim to enhance and challenge childrens growing language abilities. Participants will also engage in reflective writing on their roles as a professional early educator.
