About this Course

The course aims to provide students with an understanding of early childhood education and child development. The programme provides a high quality education that equips students with teaching skills and knowledge working with young children in pre-school settings.

Aims

  • Understand pre-school education and child development in the Singapore context;
  • Equip themselves with skills and knowledge to facilitate lesson-planning in the curriculum areas;
  • Appreciate the practices in pre-school education, which provide for an interactive and developmentally appropriate learning environment;
  • Understand the important aspects and value of their work; and
  • Appreciate their role in the field of early childhood care and education.

Mode of Instruction

Presentation of lessons will be done through lectures, small group activities and group/individual class presentations.

Assessment Mode

A combination of assignments, examination, observations, projects, group presentation, individual presentations, journals, essay and class tests will be held.

In order to obtain the Certificate, students have to successfully:

  • complete 560 hours of theory (attain a minimum attendance of 80%)
  • complete 240 hours of supervised teaching practise
  • complete all assignments and examinations

Entry Requirement

Minimum of 3 GCE “O” Level with Credit in English (EL1)* (for English Language Teachers).

*If applicant has 3 or more “O” Level credits but does not have a credit in EL1, a minimum band 5.5 obtained in IELTS will be acceptable.

Note: The CPT/CECCE to the DPE-T/DECCE-T is not available w.e.f.1 January 2013.
