In the world of business, time is of the essence. Business writing has to be done fast, with the objective of achieving the desired outcome. Correspondence has to be clear, concise, correct, courteous and coherent so the reader can understand and respond equally fast.

This course arms participants with the writing skills to produce client letters, emails and short reports which are clear, organised, readable, that flow logically and manifest the appropriate style.

  • Organising the points to create a logical flow of ideas
  • Organising the points according to emphasis
  • Achieving clear, concise and coherent writing
  • Using action verbs instead of abstract nouns
  • Using the active voice
  • Using parallel constructions
  • Limiting ideas in sentences
  • Enhancing readability with good layout, use of transition words, paragraphs, summaries, and weeding out wordiness

Setting the Style (Tone and Formality)

  • Applying the right tone when writing to familiar clients and MNC clients
  • Writing for technical and non-technical readers
  • Being conversational

Employing Editing Skills

  • Editing and proofreading for the following to enhance readability:
