About this Course

The CAT Qualification is awarded on the completion of nine exams, consisting of a suite of awards, including certificates and a diploma. There are flexible entry points with certificates awarded at each level, allowing students to tailor the awards, making them an attractive and relevant choice to employers. Both Diploma and CAT Qualification holders have direct entry to the F4 Fundamentals level of the ACCA Qualification.

The CAT Qualification is broadly equivalent to HND level/equivalent to the first year of a degree.

There are plenty of opportunities in the accounting and finance industry as all organisations need professionals who understand finance and talented people who can help make the business a success. The CAT doesn’t focus on your qualification level, rather, it starts you on your journey at the most relevant level through a range of Foundation-level certificates and diplomas which provide the ideal starting point for anyone new to accounting and finance and who doesn’t have any formal qualifications.

Standalone Professional Qualification 

Students who complete all nine exams, including two specialist options in Foundations in Taxation, Financial Management or Audit, the Foundations in Professionalism module and a year's work experience will gain the CAT qualification.

Flexible Progression Pathway 

Once the first seven core exams are completed, student can either continue their CAT pathway to attain the CAT Qualification or further their academic pursuits by transferring to the ACCA Qualification and start at F4 of the Fundamentals level – receiving exemption from the first three exams at this level.

Ethics and Professionalism 

Ethics and professionalism are at the heart of the CAT Qualification because knowing how to act professionally and ethically demonstrates that you are a professional. That’s why all students have to complete the Foundations in Professionalism interactive module to achieve any of the Foundation-level awards.

Target Audience

The program is ideal for students who desire to explore a career in accounting and finance or pursue a higher qualification in the same field but have no formal qualifications and/or experience.

COURSE STRUCTURES

In order to obtain the CAT Qualification, students needs to complete the following

  • A, B and C; PLUS
  • Any 2 out of 3 Foundation Certificates from D,E and F; PLUS
  • A year's relevant practical experience in an accounting role to show you can use your knowledge from the exams in the workplace.

COURSE ASSESSMENT

You will be given a mock test per paper during course of study, as well as regular homework assignments and in-class exercises.

AWARD OF CERTIFICATE

The Certificate is awarded by ACCA. You must pass the examinations set by ACCA and complete the self-study online Foundations in Professionalism module. You also need to have a year's relevant practical experience in an accounting role to show you can use your knowledge from the exams in the workplace.

*Please note: the Foundations in Professionalism module and your work experience can be completed before, at the same time or after taking your exams.

CAREER PATHWAY

Suitable for those aspiring to work or are already working in/as:

  • A junior accounts clerk/junior book keeper role in SME
  • Junior auditing administration roles within an auditing department of a larger organisation or financial shared service centre
  • Audit assistant, tax assistant, budget personnel
  • Basic bookkeeping
  • Trainee accountant in a commercial organisation or accounting practice
  • Accounts clerk in public sector.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 16 years old
  • IELTS 4.5 or a pass in GCE ‘N’ level English language or its equivalent
  • Preferably secondary school-level education
