Objectives

Successful management accountants must be familiar with the practical applications of technical and theoretical accounting concepts, and how to apply these concepts when making business decisions.

Outcomes

During this London School of Business and Finance course you will study subjects such as cost-volume-profit relationships, job costing systems, budget planning as a control system, and variances and management control, to name just a few. The programme is designed for those students who appreciate the ‘input’ role that management accounting plays in financial accounting. It also examines the way fundamental theories influence practical business decision making within your organisation.

COURSE OUTLINE

The Certificate in Management Accounting contains 6 sub-topics covering the core skills needed in this challenging area of business. The course takes a practical and hands-on approach to the learning process:

  • Fundamentals of Management Accounting I: an introduction to cost terms and purposes, job costing systems and process costing systems
  • Fundamentals of Management Accounting II: cost allocation, joint cost situation and income effects of alternative stock costing methods
  • Management Accounting information for decision making I: cost-volume-profit relationships, determining how costs behave, relevant information for decision making
  • Management Accounting information for decision making II: activity-based costing, pricing, target costing and customer profitability analysis
  • Budgeting and planning as control systems I: motivation, budgets and responsibility accounting, flexible budgets, variances and management control
  • Budgeting and planning as control systems II: flexible budgets, variances and management control, measuring yield, mix and quantity effects

ASSESSMENT / CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

To attain the LSBF Certificate in Management Accounting, students must achieve all of the following:

  • Complete the 50 hours of scheduled learning and teaching activities.
  • Complete and achieve a satisfactory mark in a 1500-word assignment
  • Complete and achieve a satisfactory mark in a 90 minute examination

Assignment and examination will be checked for plagiarism via Turnitin to verify the student’s work.
