Post-Diploma Certificate in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (Semester 1) Module Synopsis Fundamentals of Marine Engineering This module provides participants with basic understanding of marine piping, pumping, heating & cooling, and auxiliary machinery that support the diesel propulsion plant. The module also covers the fundamental knowledge of marine main propulsion system, alternators and steering gears. Basic knowledge of marine instrumentation and control systems will also be introduced. Fundamentals of Naval Architecture This module provides the participants with the fundamentals of various types of ship, the layout of the vessel with the main compartments, and the structural components of ships. It also covers calculations related to areas, volumes, centre, second moment of area, and other basic parameters related to geometry of ships. Calculations related to weight and centre of gravity will be introduced in this module.
