Overview

If you are looking to pursue a career with an international focus, this award will enable you to gain the key skills and knowledge needed to work and develop in an international business environment.

This course provides you with the opportunity to develop an advanced understanding of the complex, changing and multifaceted character of international business as well as the environment in which it operates. 

You’ll develop the skills necessary to work in such business, enabling you to acquire analytical skills in strategy, management and international finance as well as providing the option to develop further specialism in areas such as, marketing, employment relations, management and finance.

WHAT WILL I LEARN

Rationale and aims of the programme is to prepare individuals to be operationally effective in an international company or as a preparation for an academic career in the subject area of international business.

The main aims are to make graduates familiar with

(a) many of the varied and complex problems that arise in business on an international scale,

(b) the kinds of solutions that have been developed, and

(c) the implementation and evaluation issues which arise.

In addition to the programme aims the QAA Academic Standard provides the Master level benchmarks for Specialist Master’s Degrees programmes which states that Master degrees are awarded to students who have demonstrated:

  • A critical awareness systematic understanding of knowledge, of current problems and new insights, much of which is at, or informed by, forefront of their academic discipline, field of study, or area professional practice.
  • A comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to their own research or advanced scholarship.
  • Originality in application of knowledge, together with practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge of the discipline.
  • Conceptual understanding that enables the student to evaluate critically current research and advanced scholarship in the discipline and to evaluate methodologies and develop critiques of them and, where appropriate, to propose new hypotheses.

Career Opportunities

Completion of the MSc International Business opens a gateway to a number of managerial roles in national and international organisations, either in a general role or as a specialist, for example in marketing or human relations.

Finance specialists may find employment as traders or in other functions in financial markets.

Mode of Delivery

Test/ examinations, case studies, research proposal and dissertation.

Entry Requirement

Applicants with any of the following qualifications will be considered for admission:

  • A relevant University honours degree UK class 2.2 or above, or foreign equivalent.
  • OR an appropriate University Postgraduate Diploma in Business/Management.
  • OR an equivalent qualification to one of the above.

All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in reading, speaking and writing in the English Language. The entry requirements will be consistent with those for Master’s courses as set out in the University’s Academic Regulations for Taught Programmes – normally at IELTS level 6.5 (or equivalent).

An irrelevant University honours degree UK class 2.2 or above would have to complete a pre-study course.

A mature applicant lacking one of the above academic qualifications, may be considered for entry if they hold or have held a senior managerial position(s) for 4 years or more and are able to demonstrate the ability to fulfil the objectives of the programme and achieve the standards required for the award. A pre-study course may be necessary.
