About this Course

This is a Montessori teacher training course. It is suitable for students wishing to work with or to teach children from 2½ to 6 years of age. 

The Diploma is awarded by Modern Montessori International, London.

Aims

  • Develop a deep understanding of current theories, research of child development, the Montessori Principle and Philosophy and their implications on early childhood care and education.
  • Observe and understand children’s interactions with the environment.
  • Develop a framework for creating a learning environment that will enhance the total development of young children.
  • Demonstrate their understanding of the teacher’s role, knowledge and skills of the teaching/learning processes and their implications for practice.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the teaching aids developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.
  • A knowledge of the Montessori environment and the role of a Montessori directress/director.
  • A knowledge of the Montessori Curriculum.

Mode of Instruction

Presentation of lessons will be done through lectures, small group activities and group/individual class presentations.

Assessment Mode

A combination of assignments, examination, observations, projects, group presentation, individual presentations, journals and essay.

On acceptance into the course, you will receive a course manual and 2 text books.

Entry Requirement

Applications are assessed on their individual merits but must have obtained at least 3 GCE ‘O’ Levels (or its equivalent). They must also have a good standard of both written and spoken English. They must be at least 17 years of age. Those without the above qualification will be considered on case by case basis.
