About this Course

The Diploma in Game Design is a One-year Programme Designed to Provide Students with the Building Blocks from Which They Can Build Their Careers

In the duration of the course, students will study the process and principles behind creating the various genres of videogames, before acquiring the skills of a game developer. Students who attend the Diploma in Game Design will be armed with the knowledge to design, create and publish interactive games. Students will receive mentorship guidance, and close attention will be paid to the development of the student’s portfolio in order to raise their employability upon graduation.

Curriculum

Our industry-standard curriculum is based on the recommendations of our illustrious Academic Board, made up of some of the most recognized faces in the local games industry. Our curriculum is designed to arm students with the basic knowledge needed to become a full-fledged developer.

Students can expect:

  • Pre-production Processes & Documentation
  • Introduction to Programming & Various Application of Programming in Games
  • Introduction & Application of Game Development Tools & Engines (e.g. Unity, XNA, CryEngine)

Student-to-Lecturer Ratio (9:1)

Our low student-to-lecturer ratio, 9 students to 1 lecturer, means that each student within the class is given adequate attention during the course of their education. Armed with industry experience, our mentors and lecturers are primed to pass on advice and guidance regarding industry standards and practices.

Industry Experience

Students will be given a MAGES Guided Project at the end of their course, where they will work under guidance alongside a development studio—earning precious industry experience during the course of their education.

Portfolio Development

At MAGES, there is a distinct focus on the development of the student’s portfolio, in order to increase their employability upon graduation.

Programme Layout:

Full Time – 5 days a week and 5 hours a day

Part Time – 3 days a week and 3 hours a day

*Note: International Students can only opt for Full Time Programmes

Intake Consideration:

General Interest: Applicants must have a passion for creation, a love of media and entertainment, and willingness to strive for good results.

Age:

16 Years Old (based on Date of Birth)

Academic Qualifications for Diploma Intake:

Local Students:

  • GCE ‘A’ Level or
  • Students with 3 GCE ‘O’ Level passes or Certificate Level or NITEC have to complete MAGES Certificate Program for entry into relevant program prior to entry into selected Diploma courses. Exceptions for the foundation program may be granted on a case-by-case.

International Students:

  • Applicants should have passed a minimum of 12 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English. Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score of 65%. or
  • Minimum of 10 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English have to complete MAGES Foundation Course for the relevant programmes prior to entry into selected Diploma courses. [Ref:Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score as below for following countries:

          - Indonesia: Year 11 with an average 65%;

          - India: with Pass;

          - Sri Lanka: with Pass;

          - Myanmar: with Pass;

          - Vietnam: Year 11 with an average 65%;

          - China: Year 11 with an average 65%;

          - Others: Year 11 with an average 65%

English Proficiency:

For all students who have not studied English up to senior high level would need to complete the following:

  • IELTS 5.5 or more
  • Other equivalent qualifications where the medium of instruction is English
  • Student may attend additional English classes and pass at the equivalent of upper intermediate level (if student does not meet any of the above English requirements.
