About this Course
This course prepares the students for a career in Early Childhood Care and Education. It will provide the skills, knowledge and competence that will enable students to develop a career as a Pre-school Educator for children whose age range is between 18 months to 6 years.
Students will learn good communication skills both written and spoken to effectively work with young children and their families. The DECCE-T is awarded by MMIA and accredited by ECDA.
Aims
- Enable trainees to transfer educational/child developmental theories into practice which provide wide-ranging, multi media and developmentally appropriate learning experiences to young children.
- Enable trainees to be skillful in observation and to apply their knowledge of child development to designing a learning environment that meets the needs of each individual child
- Present to trainees with a variety of early childhood approaches which facilitate a creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum

- Help trainees design, implement and evaluate learning environment and activities based on the curriculum framework and desired outcomes of pre-school education.

Presentation of lessons will be done through lectures, small group activities and group/individual class presentations.
Assessment Mode
A combination of assignments, examination, observations, projects, group presentation, individual presentations, journals, essay and class tests will be held.

Awards
In order to obtain the Diploma, students have to successfully:
- complete 900 hours of theory (attain a minimum attendance of 80%)
- complete 300 hours of supervised teaching practicum
- complete all assignments and examinations

GCE 'O' level credits in 5 different subjects, including EL1 (for EL teachers) or MT (for MT teachers)
