About this Course

Certificate of English Language at 3 different levels are intended for candidates who wish to achieve a quality and internally recognised qualification in English as English Language requirement for entry into various courses offered within MMI Academy. 

The Certificate of English Languages are skills based qualifications that have been designed to develop and assess a candidate’s ability to communicate in English.

Aims

• Foster a positive attitude to the learning of English while at the same time:
  
• Developing knowledge and understanding of the spoken and written forms of English in meaningful contexts;
  
• Developing the ability to listen and read for gist and detail and apply this knowledge and understanding to speaking and writing;
  
• Developing the ability to communicate effectively in English through the written and spoken word;
  
• Developing knowledge and understanding of the grammar of English, and the ability to apply it accurately in the appropriate context;
  
• Laying a suitable foundation for the further study of the language.
  

Course Structure

The Certificate of English Languages are skills based qualifications that have been designed to develop and assess a candidate’s ability to communicate in English. Every candidate is assessed at increasing levels of difficulty and cover the four skill areas of;

• Listening
  
• Speaking
  
• Reading and
  
• Writing
  

Mode of Instruction

Lessons will be conducted as PowerPoint presentation, lectures, videos, assignments, group tasks and role play.

Assessment Mode

• The Reading and Listening tests are based solely on objective, multiple choice and true/false type questions.
  
• The Writing test will consist of a combination of subjective questions that require either long or short written responses.
  
• Speaking test will be internally assessed.
  

Course Materials

On acceptance into the course, students will be issued with course materials / handouts and worksheets.

Support Services

Students can utilize any of the support services available from the academy. Students are advised to refer books from Library to enhance their learning needs.

Awards

The student will be awarded with ‘Certificate of English (Intermediate) Level 2” if the student has successfully completed all the prescribed course requirements.

Entry Requirement

Though no formal education is required, students should possess an English Language proficiency at Certificate of English Language (Basic & Elementary) Level 1 or its equivalent.
