About this Course

Introduction

This is an introductory course to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). It is designed and developed to help equip aspiring teachers to teach English as a Foreign Language.

Duration:

20 lessons, 3 hours each

Total of 60 hours*

Approximately 5 months

*: Not including self-study and practicum

Objectives

• Understand the principles on which modern language teaching is based

• Equip individuals with the right theories, method and strategies in teaching English as a second or foreign language

• Learn to design own lesson plans based on different learning styles, cultural background and needs of learners

• Acquire international certification advancement in your teaching careers.

Admission Criteria

• Be at least 18 years old of age upon enrolment.

• Have at least 5 GCE ‘O’ Level.

• Proficiency in verbal English.

*If you are not within the above criteria and keen to sign up for the course, you are required to submit your academic qualification with a cover letter justifying. Your application will be assessed by the centre and we would advise you accordingly. 

Assessment / Graduation Requirement:

This qualification is assessed based on 8 essay based assignments and a practicum. Achieved at least 50% in the overall grading for ALL modules & 75% attendance rate to graduate.

Class (Face-To-Face)

Class size will be kept to size of 6 - 10 students to ensure holistic learning.

The Syllabus

During the course, students will build a strong fundamental in teaching english. With the close interaction and guidance of our highly dedicated and qualified trainers, students will learn the following modules/subjects to prepare them for the LTTC examination:

Unit 1: Introduction to TEFL

Unit 2: Grammar

Unit 3: Teaching and Learning Grammar

Unit 4: Teaching Vocabulary

Unit 5: Teaching Productive Skills

Unit 6: Teaching Receptive Skills

Unit 7: Materials and Aids

Unit 8: Teaching Pronunciation

Unit 9: Lesson Planning

Unit 10: Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers

Unit 11: Using Course Books Effectively

Unit 12: Introduction to Using The Web

Practicum

Students will be given the opportunity to apply what they would learn from the course. Our trainers will guide the students as to how classes should be conducted.
