About this Course
This course provides the theoretical basis for sports public relations, as well as guidance about the application of various concepts from the discipline. Students will learn how to write a news release and plan a community outreach event for a sports organization; they will learn to become proactive in approaching public relations for their organizations; and they will learn to help their organizations become more progressive in their public relations practices.
COURSE GOALS
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand, analyze, synthesize, evaluate discuss, and describe major concepts and topics of the course:
- The definition of public relation, as contrasted with advertising, marketing, publicity and promotion;
- The basic principle of media relations, and public relation research, planning, action and campaigns, evaluation and ethics;
- The legal aspects of public relations, including laws of libel and slander;
- Public affairs and how to work with government agencies;
- Identify and locate a list of the key sport contacts for news papers, magazines, wire services, radio, TV and cable stations in a given area;
- Explain the basics of the public relations and fund raising including how the two work together and independently of one another;
- Write a successful press release;
- Define the role of the public relations practitioner in the Sports industry
AWARD
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded:
Certificate in Sports Public Relations by the United States Sports Academy, ‘America’s Sports University”.
COURSE DURATION
The course may be completed in 8weeks (40 hours) .
Assessment Methods
Students will sit for a written examination at the end of each module.
