About this Course

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing (Top Up) offers students a current and integrated business education covering the main disciplines and operational areas of business. Marketing is one of the most important and dynamic of all business disciplines. Its focus on the understanding of customer needs and the delivery of customer satisfaction effectively and efficiently makes marketing central to any successful business. 

This programme enables students to acquire relevant marketing and business knowledge and skills so that they can make an early and developing contribution in a range of organisational roles and acquire a further basis for life-long learning.

Programme Objective

The programme aims to enable students to:

  • Study organisations, their management and the changing external environment in which they operate.
  • Acquire appropriate marketing and marketing-related knowledge and understanding.
  • Prepare for a career in a range of business and management roles, but with particular reference to marketing roles.
  • Experience and reflect on working in an organisation.
  • Contribute to society at large by enhancing life-long learning skills and personal development.

Examinations & Assessment

This programme involves a combination of coursework, assignments, projects, presentations and examinations / tests. All modules contain both formative and summative assessment components. Summative assessments for each module may be based on an individual assignment, tutorials, group project and a final written examination.

Tutorials during class may take a variety of forms depending on the module and include class participation, debates, case studies and oral presentations. Take home work may also be allocated to students.

Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for the module. A student who fails the final examination will take the re-sit examination. However, a re-sit examination fee applies.

All students are required to fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 90% (international students) and 75% (local students) for each module before they are considered eligible to take the end-of-semester examinations.

Award of Certificate

Students who have completed all necessary course works, successfully passed all required modules and met all financial obligations to the Institute and University of the West England shall be awarded the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing by University of the West of England.

Programme Structure & Curriculum

This is a 12-month full-time top-up programme, covering 6 modules over 3 semesters with a total of 256 contact hours.

This programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Classes are usually held two to five times a week. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the Institute.

It is targeted at graduates of the MIS Training Centre Advanced Diploma in Marketing Management programme. These graduates will be admitted into year three of the Bachelor programme.
