About this Course

Global shortage of talent has posed considerable challenges to organisations. Some related issues that HR professionals and senior management must deal with include lower birth rates, retirement of the baby boomers, changes in life styles, fast pace of changes in technology, influence of social media in the workplace, competition for skilled employees, workforce diversity and challenges in employee engagement.

The role of Human Resource Professionals and Senior Management is to develop talent acquisition and management strategies aligned to business goals and directions. In addition, talent management must also provide for a pipeline to sustain management leadership and succession planning. Developing effective strategies and implementing programmes to support them will require an understanding of organisational needs and job requirements and seek ways to align employee competencies and capabilities to them.

There are many considerations including developing an integrated talent management system that links policies and processes for selecting people, developing and deploying people. Areas of focus will include how to assess talent, identify and develop job competencies, creating learning platforms for employee development, talent engagement and retention and identification of critical roles for succession planning.

This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to manage talent through organisational strategies to identifying talent requirements, acquire and manage talent and in so doing, enable an effective and sustainable talent pool for current and future organisational needs.

Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to;

Understand the importance of talent management strategy in terms of:

  • Aligning talent management strategies to organisational vision and values
  • Reviewing talent management policies and processes

Acquire skills in identifying talent requirements through the following methods:

  • The use and application of job competencies
  • Identifying current gaps and future talent requirements 
  • Evaluating and selecting employees to meet needs 

Understand the approaches to acquiring and retaining talent:

  • Tools for selection and deployment of talent
  • How to develop competencies

Acquire skills for implementing succession planning:

  • How to strategise and plan for succession
  • Identify critical organisational roles and feeder positions
  • Implement, manage and monitor succession plans

Target Audience

All Levels of Management and Executives, who are involved with the acquisition, management and develop of critical talent within an organisation and who are required to contribute by participating in setting strategies, planning, implementing and reviewing talent management plans and programmes.

Two days

Methodologies

A practical approach will be taken with 60% of the course on application and practical sessions with 40% on techniques and concepts. Training comprises a combination of:

  • Visually stimulating sessions for bite sized learning
  • Group activities and break up discussions
  • Case scenarios and case studies for application
  • Practical worksheets
