The Course

This specialist certificate course will develop the learner’s ability to analyse psychological processes and apply that knowledge in counselling or advisory situations.

You will also be introduced to topics, concepts, and theories comprising the areas of counseling psychology where you will gain a better understanding of human behavior in a wide range of situations, as well as important contributing cognitive processes and emotions. As such, psychology counselling is an applied field relevant to virtually all work and many non-work settings.

This programme will benefit working professionals in human resource work, counselors, teachers or whose job requires them to interact with others on a frequent basis.

Module 1: Applied Psychology Counselling (15 Hours)

Module 2: Giving and Reporting Opinions (33 Hours)

  • Manage stress and conflict at home and work
  • Deal with grief, loss and trauma
  • Overcome feelings of depression, anxiety and fear
  • Increase self-esteem and confidence
  • Enhance personal relationships
  • Deal with problems related to alcohol and drug use
  • Manage chronic pain related to somatization
  • Manage depression
  • Recover from eating disorders
  • Manage obsessions and compulsions
  • Deal with sexual concerns
  • Manage anger or violence

Course Duration

48 training hours (approx. 2 months)

Lessons are conducted twice a week

Assessment Methods

Candidates will be assessed through assignments, quizzes, class participations and written examinations. Upon successful completion of the programme, candidates will be awarded the Specialist Certificate in Psychology Counselling (SCPC) issued by Atlantic Institute of Higher Learning.

Advancement

Graduates may proceed to a Diploma in Psychology Programme.

Admission Criteria

Aged 18 and above

Minimum 4 GCE 'O' Level passes (including English Language)
