About this Course
This course is designed for Spatial Design executives/designers looking to deepen skills and experience within the furniture industry and acquire the knowledge and skills to develop creative furniture design concepts. Issues pertaining to design and construction are studied in the process of planning, visualizing and realizing a furniture design. The acquired skills will assist in developing a competitive edge through a more confident approach to designing furniture in interiors.
This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of skills necessary for a career within the furniture industry and to meet the demand for quality furniture design. Participants will be introduced to the importance of furniture design in an interior space and the various design possibilities and acquire the skills to build flexibility into their design proposals.
Theory on the principles of design styles and its effects on the human mind reinforced through research, observation, and experimentation with particular emphasis on underlying design approaches, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation.
Participants will be introduced to case studies of furniture designs of local and international designers with particular reference to current influences on present furniture design and construction approaches. Participants will also gain knowledge of methods for expressing furniture design concepts such as 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional sketching and visualizing of a conceptual idea manually and in CAD.

Participants who have successfully completed this program will be able to:
- Use knowledge of form, function, materials, technology and market needs to design furniture showing creative flair and innovation.
- Gain confidence in generating appropriate furniture design concepts against challenging project briefs.
- Produce and present furniture design solutions.
- Manage the production of prototype sample of furniture design
- To provide the student with knowledge, skills and attitudes required to select objects, furniture and art to achieve the desired ambiance and function for a designed interior space.
