About this Course

The Specialist Diploma in Mobile Computing is designed for all who understand Mobile Technologies and is forward-looking to leverage Enterprise Mobility and create new value for businesses. The objective is to equip participants with the relevant technical knowledge and expertise to design, develop and manage mobile strategies, services and applications either as start-ups, SMEs or for the enterprises. The course emphasizes a practice-oriented approach in training and covers the latest technologies, platforms and trends in mobile computing. Training will be delivered using a combination of lectures, practical workshops, classroom discussions, case studies and e-learning. Mobile Usability Design This module covers the essential usability principles of designing and developing the right mobile user experience for an application. It introduces design methodologies and processes for designing interfaces that aims to improve the interactions between user and mobile by making it more usable and receptive to the users’ needs. Design guidelines and user experiences on the respective mobile operating systems will also be discussed throughout the study of this module. iOS Application Development This practical-oriented course examines the principles of application design and development for smart devices including mobile phones and tablets. Using iOS as the development platform, this module teaches the fundamentals of native iOS programming which cover topics including UI architecture and navigation to advanced APIs such as location and mapping services as well as social media integration. Publishing applications to the AppStore will also be covered in this module to present the opportunity for students to develop and commercialize their applications. Android Application Development This module introduces students to different genres of mobile devices and focuses on giving students a good understanding of mobile communication architecture, protocol, gateway, security, integration and implementation of mobile services and applications on the Android platform. Students will be equipped with the concepts and techniques to develop innovative mobile applications such as location-aware services and geo-spatial apps. Windows Phone Application Development This module focuses on the fundamentals of Windows Phone programming based on the new generation of smartphones built to the Microsoft Windows Phone specification. Students will learn about application lifecycle management, controls and code-behind, data persistency, consuming of web-services and push notifications among other key topics. They will experience the use of Visual Studio as the integrated development environment to create applications which can be published to the Marketplace for distribution.
