About this Course
The course aims to equip the participants with knowledge and skills required for a holistic approach to facilitate timely intervention, referral and management to enhance the health and well-being of at risk adolescent and youth. School Health Management (45 hrs) This module provides the foundation of developing and managing school health promoting programmes for adolescents and youths in Singapore. The various delivery models, philosophical underpinnings, as well as sociocultural, economic and environmental factors influencing the delivery of school health programmes will be reviewed and discussed. Research and Evidence-Based Practice (30 hrs) This module aims to develop a critical and evaluative approach to research by reviewing different approaches and methods. It seeks to develop the participants ability to critically appraise studies as well as to plan a research proposal. Health Issues and Psychosocial Perspectives (75 hrs) This module provides relevant knowledge and skills in the management of common health issues in adolescents and youths. The major health issues regarding substance abuse, unsafe sexual behaviour, nutritional problems, injuries and common mental health problems and their management strategies in the school setting will be discussed.
