Health Assessment and Clinical Decision-Making (45 hrs) The module provides learners with in-depth knowledge and skills of health assessment to develop their abilities to perform systematic assessment for clinical decisions and interventions. Biological Perspectives and Related Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in Midwifery (60 hrs) This module provides an in-depth study of general and systemic pathophysiology followed by further knowledge of biological and pathophysiological processes related to women during the child bearing years. Learners will be able to integrate the pathophysiological knowledge gained with the various clinical presentations and complications of disease states. In addition, learners will study key concepts in advanced pharmacology which will form the foundation to understanding the rationale for pharmacological management of the women and babies. Psychosocial Perspectives in Childbirth and the Family (30 hrs) This module provides learners with an increased awareness and understanding of psychosocial issues pertaining to midwifery nursing practice. It will assist the learners to recognize the needs and problems of patients as well as their significant others at different stages of the childbearing process and to use this knowledge to develop effective intervention strategies. The family developmental life cycle and cultural context are considered in practice. It also includes basic theory and skills of counseling to prepare advanced practice nurses to manage challenging situations in practice.
