About this Course

Health Policies & Health Economics (30hrs) This module aims to provide students with the ability to interpret general epidemiological studies and an understanding of the health trends in the population and the burden of disease. It also aims to provide students an understanding of the national health policies in relation to their economic, political and social contexts. Health promotion policies will also be discussed in terms of its application within various settings and its impact on productivity. Research Methodologies (30hrs) This module will examine the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Students will be exposed to common survey methods, questionnaire design and qualitative and quantitative data analysis to assess needs and to evaluate the social and economic impact of health promotion interventions. Change Management for Health Promotion (30hrs) Students will be introduced to the Whole Systems Theory of change so as to engage key stakeholders in the organization and/or community. They will be introduced to the concepts and tools used in change management, to enable them to effect transformational change in the organization and/or community that they work with to ensure that health intervention programmes are sustainable. Health Promotion Project (60hrs) This module enables students to integrate various concepts learnt to develop a health promotion program proposal for the workplace, community or schools. The student will conduct a needs analysis to identify corporate/ community/ management goals when planning health promotion interventions. The module will expose the student to various funding resources available and licenses / permits required to organize events in public places. It will enable the student to develop an effective and sustainable health promotion program that would have high participation and develop social capital which is of direct relevance to the various settings.
