This unit addresses the skills and knowledge required to develop a risk management strategy to support the continuity of an organisation’s operations or services. It covers developing the risk management plan, managing risks and evaluating risk management performance.

• Establish the scope of risk management
• Work with stakeholders to identify risks and any contributing internal and external factors
• Analyse the likelihood and impact of risks to establish priorities for risk management

2. Develop risk management plan

• Identify potential strategies for mitigating risk
• Develop plans for implementing risk mitigation strategies outlining resources required for implementation
• Communicate risk management plan to stakeholders to ensure buy-in and support

3. Manage organisational risks

• Monitor activities to assess emerging and identified risks to the business operations
• Respond to emerging or identified risks in accordance with mitigation strategies
• Facilitate implementation of treatment plans when risks eventuate

4. Evaluate risk management performance

• Identify criteria to evaluate the performance of risk management strategy defining specific measures to be used
• Support the development of processes and systems to gather measurement data and feedback
• Monitor external influences and trends that may impact on risk management strategy
• Analyse data to refine risk management strategy
