About this Course

If you are interested in concentrating samples or extracting liquids, you should take up this course now! You will learn to conduct and analyse test samples using various techniques such as volumetric titration, gravimetric extraction, spectroscopy, chromatography and physical separation.

Acquire knowledge and skills which are highly relevant to the industry

  • Perform pre-testing activities such as cleaning of laboratory apparatuses and glassware, interpret data sheets and verification of equipment suitability.
  • Prepare reagents/solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas.
  • Conduct and analyse test samples using various techniques such as volumetric titration, gravimetric extraction, spectroscopy, chromatography and physical separation.
  • Compile and compute data, interpret test results and analyses and generate analysis reports.
  • Perform calibration of test equipment and troubleshooting of minor laboratory equipment breakdown.
  • Perform laboratory housekeeping activities such as handling and storage of chemicals, and disposing of chemical waste.
  • Maintain proper records of standards, test procedures and laboratory equipment usage.

Higher Nitec in Chemical Technology graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. Entry Requirements

To apply for the Higher Nitec in Chemical Technology course, you need to have:

GCE 'O' level grades in English Language, Mathematics and 1 approved subject

Or

GCE ‘N(A)’ level passes in English Language, Mathematics and 3 other subjects

* GCE N(A) school leavers, who applied during the January intake under the Direct Entry Scheme, will undergo 10 weeks of preparatory programme followed by 2 years of Higher Nitec training.
