Overview

The Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Provide Guard and Patrol Services and Handle Security Incidents and Services are both core units, which meet the national competency standards as set by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). Both units are within the Competency Category of Provide Security Operation Services Grade 1 and are modules leading to the WSQ Certificate in Security Operations.They are also mandatory modules for licensing as required by Security Industry Regulatory Department (SIRD) of the Singapore Police Force. That means a person working as a security officer must complete both modules and be assessed successfully in order for them to work as a security officer if they are not already exempted by SIRD.

Learning Objectives:

Provide Guard and Patrol Services – On completion of this unit, learner will have the knowledge and application skills in providing guard and patrol services and be able to apply them to the workplace. This includes:

1.      Preparing work activities

2.      Guarding static position

3.      Handling telephone calls and lost-and-found properties

4.      Patrolling premises

5.      Making reports and hand over duties

Handle Security Incidents and Services – On completion of this unit, learner will have the knowledge and application skills in handling security incidents and services and be able to apply them to the workplace. This includes:

1.      Containing incidents of damage to facilities and equipment

2.      Handling fire-related incidents

3.      Handling crime-related incidents

4.      Handling medical or first-aid related incidents

5.      Handling bomb or IED (Improvised Explosive Device) threat incidents

6.      Searching, apprehending and arresting suspect

7.      Giving evidence in court

Duration: 

Course – 5 days (40 training hours), Assessment – 1 day (4 hours 5 minutes) 

Timings: 0830hrs to 1830hrs

Dress: Work attire                                                   

Entry Requirements: 

Minimum Secondary Two education, SPM or NTC 2 (must show certificates) and English literate (written & spoken). Those that do not meet the entry requirements but have more than 3 years of security experience will be subjected to interview before acceptance.
