STRUCTURE AND CONTENT

The diploma programme consists of 8 subjects and may be completed in 8 months.

  • Intellectual Property Law
  • Family Law
  • Property Law and Conveyance
  • Wills and Estates
  • Commercial Law
  • Criminal Law
  • Law of Tort and Civil Obligation

Diploma in Legal Studies aims to:

  • Provide basic skills and legal knowledge required to succeed in the profession as well as to support day-to-day business operations.
  • Understand basic legal rights and duties and on how to make an informed decision in a given situation.
  • Basic skills in legal research and writing, allowing students to analyse case studies and prepare legally binding documents.
  • Acquire sound knowledge of law and its practice to effectively support legal professionals.

DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT METHODS

Delivery Method

The curriculum is taught over 4 terms of 8 weeks with each term covering 2 subjects. Each subject of this part time programme will be delivered over an 8 week cycle comprising 32 contact hours. Classes are 4-hour sessions held two or three times a week.

Assessment Methods

Each unit is assessed by any combination of class participation, written assignments, project or examinations. Assessment methods may vary according to individual unit requirements.

GRADUATION AND DEGREE

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the Diploma in Legal Studies.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Direct entry for GCE ‘A’ Level graduates, higher Nitec, high school diploma or equivalent qualifications. GCE ‘N’, ‘O’ Levels, Nitec holders will be required to take 1-3 of the following foundation modules:

  • Foundation Communication Studies
  • Foundation Mathematics
  • Foundation General Studies
