About this Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course objectives/aims for Diploma in Business was designed to introduce students to a wide range of business disciplines at a higher level of study. The program includes aspects of finance, marketing and management to facilitate an understanding of the role of business in today’s commercial world.

MODULE STRUCTURE

The course consists of 8 modules spread over a period of 6 months for both full-time and part-time.

International Trade & Practice

This module of study will enable students to have an in-depth understanding through theoretical studies of international trade, its characteristics, development as well as an in-sight of the emergence of MNCs. Most importantly, the proper understanding on the operations of Incoterms in the international business transactions.

Customer Service Management

Students on completion of the subject study would be able to have an in-depth understanding of customer service and to apply key concepts in customer service planning and management. Also to understand that customer service is a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction – the feeling that a product or service has met the customer expectation.

Principles of Management

This unit enables students to enlarge their knowledge of management, to help develop their skill in applying management concepts to different situations, and to develop an interest in the study and practice of management that will help students achieve their life goals.

Human Resource Management

The objective of this module is to enable students to have an insight of HRM, its application and development so as to improve its theoretical level and operational skills. Through the introduction of HRM theories and application, to realize the objective as well as work efficiency of their workforce, in an organization.

Accounting

Through course study, students would be able to understand the position, role and the ‘accounting value’ of the accounting system. To achieve this value, the system should accept the changes, the accountant should have the quality and capacity. The module also trains students to think independently and skill, as well as its application in the economic environment.

Economics

This unit contents are specifically prepared for students who are beginners to the study of Economics, to help and enable students to better understand the fundamentals of Economics, to understand rationally the economic activities in and surround the daily living circle and, to have better conceptual understanding in respect of economic policy. At the end of the study, students will be able to make appropriate application and interpretation of economics in the commercial environments.

Finance

This unit is designed to help students understand the company financial director’s roles and responsibilities. At the same time to study all the relevant financial analysis and financial decision-making process used by the basic concepts, principles and tools. Through the course study, students would be able to have a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts and principles of corporate finance, and methods of financial decision-making.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Age Requirement

Applicants must be 17 years and above.

Academic Entry Requirements

GCE ‘O’ Level or 11 to 12 years of school or Equivalent

9 years of school, with 3 years of work experience

Language Requirement

Pass in GCE ‘O’ level Chinese or Equivalent

ASSESSMENT & GRADING

Students are assess based on a combination of formative and summative assessments in each module. To attain a passing grade for the module, student must obtain an overall pass in both formative and summative assessments.

GRADUATION CRITERIA

Students must successfully pass all prescribed modules (with the exception of exempted modules) in the programmes with grades (Distinction, A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, or D) and meet the minimum attendance requirement, in order to graduate with a Diploma in Business (Mandarin) awarded by AEC College..

PROGRESSION PATHWAY

Students who completed the Diploma in Business (Mandarin) may gain admission to the Advanced Diploma in Business (Mandarin).
