Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

About this Course

The economist Milton Friedman in 1970 argued that a corporation's purpose is to maximize returns to its shareholders. But the world has changed since then. In the midst of the global financial downturn, the economic, environmental and social implications of business are more important than ever.

Accordingly CSR , a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with stakeholders on a voluntary basis,  is increasingly becoming an important activity for businesses throughout the globe.

This course is intended as a first step for those tasked with understanding Corporate Social Responsibility in relation to the business performance and in response to customer, vendor and government pressures to implement new standards or procedures.

The course will be particularly useful for small and medium sized organisations who have not previously considered the wider reaching social or environmental impacts of their activities.  Pitched at an introductory level, no prior knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility is required.
