Aim & Objective

This programme provides an introduction to computing and equips students with the necessary skills.This course provides students with a broad but secure foundation in the fundamental concepts of computing, Effective and practical IT skills, an introduction to mathematical concepts and techniques useful in both their understanding of computing and for their future studies.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum 16 Years old:
  • Minimum 2 GCE ‘O' Levels (credits in 2 English medium subjects)
  • Minimum 4 GCE ‘N' Levels (2 English medium subjects)
  • 2 GCE ‘N' Levels (1 English medium subject) plus 3 years of working experience.
  • Other qualifications deemed suitable by Addison Institute
  • Applicants without English proficiency must pass Addison Institute English Proficiency Placement Test prior to admission.

Programme Synopsis

Elementary / Intermediate English:

This Module syllabus use to train the students who have Basic English language skills to speak and write in proper English and with confidence. It also aim to teach students to acquire skills in the certain areas such as Grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure and pronunciation, Higher level of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing skills.

Fundamental Concepts of Computers:

This module covers components and organization of a computer system, the relationship between hardware and software, applications of computers, databases, Internet, graphics and multimedia.

English for Business Communication:

This module syllabus aim to equip the students with the skills needed to succeed in university. It also provide knowledge of critically reflect and analyze own study habits and identify ways to improve. Students can learn the skills necessary to cope with classroom note taking, conduct independent research, write academic papers and give formal oral presentation.

PC Competence:

This module aims to provide with a basic introduction to IT skills that will be required in studies. Students will learn basic in using word processor, spreadsheets and presentation software. This module focuses on the Microsoft Office suite.

Basic Mathematics for Computing:

This aim of this module is to develop basic mathematical competence to enable mathematics to be used with confidence, so that you can use mathematics effectively in later years of study. It is also focused on ensuring a functional level of mathematics that will be valuable in your everyday life and future career.

Introduction to Programming & Databases:

This module syllabus makes the students to get knowledge in extensive practical use of the modern programming language techniques and Database.

Assessments and Awards

*  For theory modules, students are assessed based on coursework / examinations and class participation.

*  Students with atleast 90% ( 75% for non-studentpass) of the class attendance are qualify for taking examination.

*  Examinations are typically conducted in the months of April, August and December for Term1, Term 2 and Term 3 respectively.

*  Upon passing exam for all 6 Subjects, Addison Institute will award Certificate in Office Skills.
