About this Course
Certificate in Fundamentals of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Module Synopsis DC Technology & Applications This module provides the students with the necessary knowledge and skills in solving dc network by using Ohms Law, Kirchhoffs Law and Thevenin Theorem. Topics covered include series circuits, parallel circuits and series-parallel circuits which are arranged in easy to understand style. Applications sections are included to establish a link between theoretical concepts of the topics and the real, practical world. Examples of the application section include how series circuits can be very effective in the design of safety equipment, how parallel circuits configuration is done in basic household wiring. AC Technology & Applications This module aims to introduce students the basics of electronic devices and some common applications. It includes an introduction to semiconductor physics as well as the construction, operating principles and common applications of diodes and transistors. Electronic circuits covered include rectifiers, voltage regulators, waveform clippers and surge protection. Calculations of average and root-mean-square (rms) values of periodic signals are also taught. The module enables students to analyze and calculate the electrical parameters of diode and transistor circuits. They should have acquired sufficient knowledge and skills to design simple Zener voltage Basic Electronics & Applications This module is highly practical oriented with approximately 80% of the time devoted to hands-on activities. It covers the analysis, design and assembly of an electronic feedback control system. The module enables students to apply control theory in the real world. They design and build analogue electronic Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller, electronic sensor module, DC Motor driver and many more. Computer is used to simulate analogue electronic circuits and circuit testing is performed using experimental approach. Measured data obtained using equipment such as DC Power Supply, Oscilloscope, Digital Meter and Signal Generator are recorded, plotted and interpreted.
