About this Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course objectives/aims for Certificate in Business was designed to introduce students to the fundamental grounds for business and management as this will lay a good foundation for in furthering their studies.

MODULE STRUCTURE

The course consists of 6 modules spread over a period of 8 months.

Management

The unit introduces and to enlarge students’ basic knowledge of management, to help them understand the concepts of management, and how to apply management skills in the different situations. The module also enables students to have a basic understanding of various types of business organizations such as Public and Private Sectors, sole-Proprietorship, Partnership, Limited Companies Liabilities etc..

Accounting

This unit provides students a fundamental concept of General Accounting Principles and the Accounting System as well as Profit & Loss Accounts, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statements, Financial Reports and Interpretation etc.. On completion of study students will be able to understand the Accounting theories as well to apply the theoretical analysis in the preparation and interpretation of Financial Statements.

E-Commerce

This unit examines the definitions of electronic commerce and electronic business and their surrounding environments. The Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW) as enablers of electronic commerce are discussed in this chapter as well as their effect on traditional business models. Security issues relating to electronic commerce are also introduced and discussed.

Marketing

This unit introduces students the concept of ‘market’: its location, size and segments etc. It also touches on the Marketing Mix and distribution channels. At the end of the study, students will be able to understand the basic concepts of Marketing and will be able to analysise and apply theories in the business environment.

Economics

This unit introduces the basic concept of the central problems of economics, the resource allocation, Demand & Supply, Micro-economics and Macro-economics. At the end of the study, students will be able to have an insight of economic activities, effective distribution of resources through the selection of means of market, production and consumption.

Business Statistics

This units introduces the concepts of Probability, Random Variables, Normal Distribution, Samplings, Linear Combinations, Hypothesis Testing etc.. Through studying the module, students will be able to understand its basic theories and concepts to enable them to apply such analysis in the commercial environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Age Requirement

Applicants must be 16 years and above.

Academic Entry Requirement

Completed 10 years of education in Chinese or Equivalent

Language Requirement

Mandarin

ASSESSMENT & GRADING

Students are assess based on a combination of formative and summative assessments for each module. To attain a passing grade for the module, student must obtain an overall pass both in formative and summative assessments.

GRADUATION CRITERIA

Students must successfully pass all prescribed modules (with the exception of exempted modules) in the programmes with grades (Distinction, A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, or D) and meet the minimum attendance requirement, in order to be awarded with the Certificate in Business (Mandarin) by AEC College.

PROGRESSION PATHWAY

Students who completed the Certificate in Business (Mandarin) may gain admission to the Diploma in Business (Mandarin).
