About this Course
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business and Management (Top Up) offers students a current and integrated business education covering the main disciplines and operational areas of business. The curriculum aims to challenge students in their ways of thinking, behaving, learning, and issues of ethics and ethical decision making, sustainability and global citizenship are embedded throughout.
The programme actively seeks input from the external environment and student learning is grounded in the external context wherever appropriate through, e.g. assessments that require students’ opportunities to test out concepts in practice and reflections on own experience of organisations. Student achievement is supported by a clear personal development strand of transferable skills and ‘brain habits’ that facilitates the transition into Higher Education and which underpins employability and lifelong learning.
Programme Objective
The programme aims to enable students to:
- Acquire a critical understanding of organisations, their management and the changing external environment in which they operate.
- Be equipped with the employability attributes and skills necessary for a career in business and management.
- Develop an analytical and enquiring approach in the analysis of business problems so that considered and appropriate conclusions are drawn - which can be communicated effectively in a variety of forms.
- Have an informed understanding of critical contemporary business issues and theoretical debates, including ethics & ethical decision-making, sustainability and global citizenship.
- Work with academic theory in practice.
- Develop a strong of self and the life-long learning skills to make an ongoing contribution to society at large.
Examinations & Assessment
This programme involves a combination of coursework, assignments, projects, presentations and examinations / tests. All modules contain both formative and summative assessment components. Summative assessments for each module may be based on an individual assignment, tutorials, group project and a final written examination.
Tutorials during class may take a variety of forms depending on the module and include class participation, debates, case studies and oral presentations. Take home work may also be allocated to students.
Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for the module. A student who fails the final examination will take the re-sit examination. However, a re-sit examination fee applies.
All students are required to fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 90% (international students) and 75% (local students) for each module before they are considered eligible to take the end-of-semester examinations.
Award of Certificate
Students who have completed all necessary course works, successfully passed all required modules and met all financial obligations to the Institute and University of the West England shall be awarded the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business and Management by University of the West of England.
Programme Structure & Curriculum
This is a 12-month full-time top-up programme, covering 6 modules over 3 semesters with a total of 256 contact hours
This programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Classes are usually held two to five times a week. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the Institute.
It is targeted at graduates of the MIS Training Centre Advanced Diploma in Business Management programme. These graduates will be admitted into year three of the Bachelor programme.
