Apply Surface and Coating Technologies

About this Course

Surface and coating technologies have played a pivotal role in the precision engineering industry. This unit covers various surface and coating technologies that are commonly used in precision engineering and tools industry. Participants are introduced to the surface engineering technologies commonly used in cutting and forming tools, mould and dies, and generic wear components applications. Both wet and dry coating processes, including electro- and electroless- plating, anodising, sol-gel, physical vapour deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and themal spray are instructed in this module. Surface treatment techniques including surface cleaning technologies and plasma surface treatment will be taught. This course will also cover some common characterisation techniques for evaluting the structure and properties of surface coatings.
