About this Course
The Advanced Diploma in Business Studies has been developed by London School of Business and Finance (LSBF) as a progression route for students aiming for a Higher Education qualification in the subject area, and/or for students aiming for a career in business and management.
Graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Business Studies may wish to progress further in their studies and will be equipped to join a level six (Honours degree) qualification in Business Studies or Management. Graduates wishing instead to enter employment at this stage will be suited to roles that require effective, autonomous action and the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making skills.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
The Advanced Diploma in Business Studies aims to provide students with:
- The ability to apply underlying concepts and principles of business and management in an employment context.
- Knowledge of the main methods of enquiry in the academic study of Business Studies and management.
- An understanding of the limits of their knowledge, and how this influences analyses and interpretations based on that knowledge.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Finance should be able to evaluate and apply, within the context of the organisation, the standard theories and concepts from the following generic management areas:
- Finance and Management Accounting;
- Human Resources;
- Information Systems and Technology;
- Operations Management
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate relevant accounting and finance knowledge and understanding of organisations, the external environment in which they operate and how they are managed
- Demonstrate proficiency in quantitative methods and computing techniques and know how to use these techniques and methods effectively across a range of problems
- Interpret financial data and carry out statistical and financial analysis
- Demonstrate understanding of ethical and regulatory requirements and issues
- Effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms to specialist and non-specialist audiences, including use of a range of media which are widely used in business such as the preparation and presentation of business reports
- Demonstrate cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis
- Demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making using appropriate quantitative and qualitative skills including identifying, formulating and solving business problems
- Take and demonstrate responsibility for their own learning and continuing personal and professional development
- Undertake further training, develop existing skills and acquire new competences that will enable them to assume significant responsibility within organisations
In addition, holders of the Advanced Diploma in Accounting Finance should have:
- Acquired a range of personal and professional skills that can be used in a wide range of situations and contexts.
- Gained the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making.

B: Assessments Profile
i. In-course Assessment: (50%)
- Assessment guidance will be given in the first session of the module, with any relevant documentation distributed to the students.
- The In-Course Assessment content will be aligned to the module’s learning objectives and the form can represent any type of assessment. The assessment selected for the module will be the method most conducive to enhancing student learning and maintaining standards.
ii. Final Examination: (50%)
- Assessment guidance will be given in the first session of the module, with any relevant documentation distributed to the students.
- The Lecturer will conduct a revision for the examination to provide the student an opportunity to focus on the primary learning objectives and to answer any remaining questions from the students
- Students are required to sit for the examination to successfully complete the module.
Graduating students will be awarded with an Advanced Diploma in Business Studies by London School of Business & Finance in Singapore upon successful completion of the programme and a pass for all modules.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- 17 years old or above
- Completion of LSBF Diploma in Accounting and Finance (or equivalent programme); Or
- Polytechnic Diploma holders in a relevant field of study (with exemptions);Or
- Polytechnic Diploma holders in a related field of study (with or without exemptions);Or
- Polytechnic Diploma holders in a non-related field of study (with Bridging);Or
- Other appropriate qualifications.
Minimum English Language Entry Requirement
- Achieved a grade C6 or better in English language O level;Or
- Equivalent qualification e.g. IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550;Or
- LSBF PCE Advanced.
- Completion of a Polytechnic Diploma (or equivalent) delivered and examined in English.
Exceptions
Students, who have other qualifications, will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
(Note: Relevant Polytechnic Diploma’s may well be able to claim direct entry to the final year of a degree.)
