The Five modules are: CU1 – Provide loans and membership services CU2 – Support acquisitions and serials work CU3 – Support bibliographic control work CU4 – Support collection development CU5 – Support general reference and information enquiry work Module Overview This module Competency Unit 5 (CU5): Support general reference and information enquiry work addresses the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed in supporting, communication and helping information needs of a variety of information seekers using the libraries. It also covers the refrence interview techniques and the evaluation and use of printed and online information resources and services to assist the information-seeker. This competency unit comprises the following competency elements: 1. Answer basic enquiries about library collection, services, use, facilities and procedures 2. Receive enquiries from users and identify appropriate librarian or library staff to handle enquiries 3. Search library catalogues and other basic finding tools competently 4. Provide appropriate response, follow up and closure to enquirers 5. Acquire a resource that is not part of the library collection for the customer
