About this Course

This two-day course introduces site supervisors to their legal responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. This course is endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) as the standard training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is for first line managers/team leaders or supervisor or those who have, or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities on a construction site.

It provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues for those who need an understanding of their moral, economic and legal responsibilities relevant to their sites work activities.

It will provide a sound knowledge base to enable them to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES

To ensure that all those given construction supervisory responsibilities understand:

  • Why they are carrying out their identified duties and
  • What is expected of them and
  • To ensure that they contribute to the safety of the workplace

And at the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the problems of the industry
  • Have an understanding of how health and safety law is structured
  • Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the manager in controlling the site safely
  • Carry out risk assessments and understand the need for method statements
  • Carry out site inspections, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
  • Understand what is meant by proactive and reactive monitoring and appreciate their need

  2. Specific site issues that challenge supervisors on a daily basis
  3. Effective toolbox talks
  4. Supervision of occupational health
  5. Behavioural safety

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Work

Suitable for those who have or who are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. 

Academic

Good spoken and written English.

Good communication skills • Problem solving • Organisational skills.

ASSESSMENT AND EXAMS

Continuous assessment via individual and group exercises, plus a multiple-choice test.
