About this Course

Participants will enter the world of visual images, where they begin to see the meanings and messages behind the styles and decorative images one encounters. They will discover interior design and understand the essential elements of design that enables one to identify what to look for when observing design in the world around us. They will also gain the insight needed to be a first rate interior designer, and use said knowledge to begin creating their own designs with flair and creativity.

The course will include the definition, interpretation of elements, application and evaluation of elements of design, such as scale, texture, tone, harmony, rhythm and connotations of space, to enhance visual literacy. This is along with the participants’ awareness of design elements broadening by identifying their application in the everyday world.

The course will also cover the essential underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes required to establish criteria for appropriate critical evaluation of designs including aesthetic considerations, its social and cultural context, and exploration of the narrative of design through critical evaluation of existing ones.

Aim of the Course

To develop observation, interpretation and analytical skills to explore design principles in a theoretical and applied approach. It also aims to provide partcipants with knowledge, skills and attitude required to increase the range and variety of creative options in the process of conceptualising, developing and justifying creative concepts for interior design projects.

Learning Objectives

Participants who successfully complete the program will be able to:

  • Develop and apply research criteria to analyse and critically evaluate selected designs.
  • Synthesise and apply strategies for developing and exploring creative design options.
  • Produce a creative interior design solution for a commercial and residential interior.

6 sessions at 2 hrs per session
