About this Course

This course is designed for anyone considering a future in game design/film Industry, who have basic drawing skills and are interested in developing professional skills in concept art. Have you ever wondered how elaborate scenes and characters are imagined for movies or how fantastical worlds are realized in video games or in moves? That’s the job of the concept artist. Study composition, perspective, environment design, character design and Creature design—everything you’ll need to embark on a creatively rewarding concept Artist career.

You will also investigate the role of concept artist in the game/film production process whilst developing your 2D visualization skills. Using a combination of hand drawing and digital techniques you will be taken through the process of developing characters and environments in response to a written brief.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS

  • To fulfill the aims of the programs, the following will be the objectives of the program:
  • Basic and general outline of creating a Character and environment as used in concept design for the video game and film industries
  • Fundamental ideas behind character and creature design through the creation of unique thumbnails and rough studies
  • Understand and Create unique thumb-nailing, tonal layout, anatomy, costuming, posing, and basic lighting techniques.
  • Grasp of composition, value studies, perspective and digital painting techniques
  • Able to communicate an atmosphere and create a set to the narration being told using visuals only.
  • Investigate and Explore different theme and style
  • Create imaginative, convincing and believable creatures/characters through spontaneous imagination and creativity.

Duration:

4 Months

Programme Layout:

Full-Time: 5 days X 3 hours a day per week.

Part-Time: 3 days X 3 hours a day per week for Lecture classes.

Students are given the flexibility to complete the module assignment/ projects as per schedule given without compulsorily attending the school.

Entry Requirement

LOCAL STUDENTS

Intake Consideration:

Applicants must have a passion for creation, a love of media and entertainment, and willingness to strive for good results.

Minimum Age:

16 years old or above (based on date of birth) at point of start class

Academic Qualification for Programme Intake:

Obtained at least C6 in any 3 GCE O level subjects or Certificate Level or Nitec related to Arts or Grade E in any one GCE A Level subject

English Proficiency:

  • GCE ‘O’ Level English

          - English grade of C6 required for IT and Gaming programmes related courses

          - Other programmes requires a minimum of C6 English grade

  • Pass interview with the Academic Director and assessment by Academic Board (if student does not meet the above English requirement)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Academic Qualification for Programme Intake:

  • GCE ‘A’ Level or
  • Applicants should have passed a minimum of 12 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English. Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score of 65%. or
  • 3 GCE ‘O’ Level passes or Certificate Level or NITEC.
  • Minimum of 10 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English. Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score of 65%. [Ref: Student has to pass all subjects with the required averaged score as below:

          - Indonesia: Year 11 with an average 65% ;

          - Sri Lanka: Year 10 Pass ;

          - India: Year 10 Pass

          - Vietnam: Year 11 with an average 65% ;

          - Myanmar: Year 11 Pass ;

          - China: Year 11 with an average 65% ;

          - Others: Year 11 with an average 65%

For all students who have not studied English up to senior high level would need to have completed the following:

English Proficiency:

  • IELTS 5.5
  • Other equivalent qualifications where the medium of instruction is English
  • Student may attend additional English classes and pass at the equivalent of upper intermediate level (if student does not meet any of the above English requirements)
