About this Course

The Specialist Diploma in Radiology Nursing aims to equip the students with specialised knowledge and skills required to provide holistic care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures. Fundamentals of Radiology Nursing (45 hrs) This module aims to equip participants with knowledge in planning, coordinating and management of patients undergoing radiological investigations. It includes knowledge in ethical-legal issues, patient safety and education. Participants will also learn specific knowledge and skills in caring for the acutely ill patient and responding to an emergency situation in the radiology department. Radiology Nursing 1 (45 hrs) This module comprises two sections: facets of diagnostic radiology & principles of radiation oncology. It provides participants with an understanding and comprehensive foundation of diagnostic radiology. It will include planning, coordination of care and management of procedural complications. It includes the roles and responsibilities of the nurse caring for patients receiving radiation therapy. Radiation Biology and Radiation Protection (30 hrs) This module examines the radiobiology and radiological physics aspect, and will cover areas such as animal cell anatomy, radiation detection, and biological effects of ionising as well as non-ionising radiation, radiation protection and dosimetry. Research and Evidence-Based Practice (30 hrs) This module aims to develop a critical and evaluative approach to research by reviewing different approaches and methods. It seeks to develop the participants’ ability to critically appraise studies as well as to plan a research proposal.
