Post-Diploma Certificate in Critical Care Nursing Sciences and Practice Module Synopsis Advanced Nursing Science 1 This module provides a continuity of basic nursing science from general nursing training. Diseases and altered conditions of major body systems are covered in depth with integration of pathophysiology and applied human anatomy. Interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic studies results are included. It includes topics from respiratory, cardiology, cardiovascular, neurology and neurosurgical. The module includes the concepts of critical care monitoring of the cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurological system. The advanced pathophysiological processes or metabolic derangement of the cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurological diseases. Advanced critical care diagnostic tools used in the management of cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurological diseases. Advanced Nursing Science 2 This module provides a continuity of basic nursing science from general nursing training. Diseases and altered conditions of major body systems are covered in depth with integration of pathophysiology and applied human anatomy. Interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic studies results are included. It includes topics from gastro-intestinal, hepatobiliary, uronephrology, integumentary, haematology, endocrine system and the related functional organs/tissues and diseases. Advanced Nursing Practice This module involves learning of advanced nursing skills that are performed commonly in the acute care setting. This includes competency in haemodynamic monitoring, such as monitoring intraarterial pressure, central venous pressure, pulmonary arterial pressure and intra-cranial pressure, cardiac output monitoring using the pulmonary artery catheter, obtaining a pulmonary artery wedge pressure reading, cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance and cardiac index, ventilator management, cardiac pacing, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), extra corporal membrane oxygenator (ECMO), peritoneal dialysis (PD), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and haemodialysis HD. Advanced Clinical Pharmacology This provides knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of various classes of drugs. It includes studies of drugs that are commonly used for critical care patients, drugs used during procedures, drug interactions, contraindications, side effects and nursing implications. Pharmacology is integrated with Advanced Nursing Sciences 1 and 2. It develops an understanding of the medication groups used in the autonomic nervous system, central and peripheral (somatic) nervous system, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, diuretics and renal, gastrointestinal, chemotherapy, crystalloids and colloids, endocrine, antibiotics, analgesics, dosage adjustments of medications in liver and renal failure.
