About this Course

This program – Handle Patent Written Opinion– focuses on responding to written opinion in relation to written description, claims and drawings comments by examiners.

Candidates who attend this program can look forward to hearing a distinguished local practitioner lecture and share experiences on the topics.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, participants will possess knowledge of:

• providing timely and professional response to a final office action and non-final office action 

• arguing of patentability

• amending to the Specification

• amending to the Claims

• amending to the Drawings

• presenting arguments regarding why the amended claims patentable

This course is intended for those who already have a basic understanding of patents and will provide, through homework assignments and in-class work, exposure to the actual practice of patents. The program also includes rigorous training for those intending to pursue the Singapore Patent Agents Qualifying Examinations.

*Note to Participants:

Participants should have already had some exposure to patents through other programs such as the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property (GCIP) or experience with patent related work. Tutors will assume participants would have knowledge of:

- Different forms of IP

- The Singapore patent process

- Parts of a patent specification

- General patent principles (e.g. patentability, prior art)

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

The program will cover a total of 4 days. The first 3 days cover course work, discussions and exercises. This will be followed by a half day of assessment/exam, and closed off with a final half day session for individual review of assessments.

This course is designed for persons who are interested in patent practice in depth, and wish to pursue careers as patent agents or jobs closely linked to patents.
